2011 Season

Secretary’s Report - Reflection on 2011

January
Annual General Meeting was held in January 2011, and the charity chosen by members for the year was The Sperrin Room, Altnagelvin.

February

Guest speaker Una Cardin attended the monthly meeting on behalf of The Sperrin Room, Altnagelvin. Una explained to members what services The Sperrin Room provides and advised members what money raised by the club could aid.

March
Final arrangements were put in place for the Annual Static Show, with all members encouraged to get onboard with helping to make it a successful day.  During the monthly meeting Tommy Finley opened up the video archive of the club runs that he had accumulated over the years and offer member the opportunity to reminisce on two car runs from 2003/2004.

April
The Annual Static Show was held at the City of Derry Rugby Club on Sunday 3rd of April.  A successful day was had by all in attendance, entry numbers had been noticeably lower that in previous years, however with the help of generous members donations the Treasurer found that a similar amount of money had be raised to that of previous years.  Some members attended a well deserve break at the end of the month at Ballylinney Cottages for the Annual Club Weekend.

May
A quiet month in the year, club runs for the summer months where discussed.  There was cause for congratulations when the youngest member of the club Mr Mark Sharkey passed his driving test.

June
The monthly meeting was held at the Point Bar in Magilligan, with many members bringing along their partners to attend the meeting and BBQ, many members also brought their classic cars to the meeting.

July

Most members were on holidays during July, Vincent Devine and Gerry O’Neill give members an account of their visit to the Moffett Static Show, Scotland in June and encouraged other members to consider attending in 2012.

August

With the end of the summer fast approaching members were eager to polish their cars and dust off the driving gloves for one last run out in August.  Tommy Finley and Billy Hamilton had organised the ‘Eleanor’s Home Bakery, Out for the Buns’ Run which incorporated a visit to the Carmoney Water Treatment Plant and a local treasure hunt.  The run was well supported by members, and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

September

During September final preparations where put in place for the Annual Dinner Dance which would be held at the Whitehouse Horse Hotel on the 10th of December 2011.

October
During the monthly meeting club members exercised their brains with a quiz organised by Pat Dixon and David Keys, which encouraged the competitive streak out of those in attendance and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

November
Charities for 2012 were considered and the amount raised for the Sperrin Room, Altnagelvin was discussed.  Plans for the Annual Static show on the 1st of April 2012 where put in place with the hope for an even more successful day in 2012.

December
Members attended the Annual Christmas Dinner Dance, another successful club event. With a wide array of prizes on offer for the draw including a mountain bike, which was kindly donated by David Keys.
